7 best Nintendo switch games for you to compete with friends

Best Nintendo switch games in 2018
There are still plenty of excellent upcoming Switch games on the horizon so here is a least of the best games that are available so far:

1. Runner3

As someone with a penchant for perfectionist platforming challenges, the 2.5D Bit.Trip game Runner2 got its hooks in me deep - so I'm stoked to start the weird journey anew in Runner3, striving to ace every last level. Commander Video and a gang of indie guest characters are back for more auto-scrolling runs and jumps, set to the tune of blippy beats and whisking you through colorful, vaguely grotesque backdrops. Simply making it to the finish line is difficult enough, but trying to collect every last gem and bundle of gold bars requires nothing short of immaculate timing and speedy reflexes. Runner3 brings back branching levels, and introduces plenty of minigame-esque modes of alternate transportation like celery go-karts, eggplant biplanes, and saddled caterpillars. Told you it was weird!

2. Mario tennis ace

Of the many Mario and co. sporting events, the tennis and golf series have always been the clear standouts - so it's great to see Mario Tennis Aces continue the legacy on Switch. The basics are just like you remember from the N64 days, with up to four players taking the court to slam the ball around with power shots, topspins, slices, and lobs, all signaled by those distinct color-coded light trails. But Mario Tennis Aces borrows from the fighting game genre with the introduction of meter management, letting you build up a special bar to unleash moves like the first-person-aimed Zone Shot, flashy Trick Shot, or KO-punch Special Shot. There's also racquet durability, forcing volleys to end if a player's racquet shatters from the impact of too many hits, and blocking, which acts like a pinpoint-timing parry of incoming super shots. It's a lot of extra complexity, but should hopefully deepen the strategy of your contests on the court - and purists can still forego the new mechanics entirely if they so choose.

3. Okami HD

Finally, Okami HD is coming to Switch, bringing its joyous Japanese paint art style to the Switch's screen. Arriving on Switch certainly isn't the beautiful Okami's first outing, but it is the first getting some new controls especially created for touchscreen. In handheld mode you can use your own drawing skills to slash enemies in half, or bring life back to the land of Nippon, but you can also use the Joy-Con's gyroscope to draw your own sumi-e ink drawings for tablet or TV mode. It's basically the Wii version but much, much better.

4. Light fall

Bright, colourful and utterly addictive is basically a quick summary of Light Fall. This fast-paced platforming adventure game lets you take control of a Shadow Core, which is a magical box that propels you through each of the game's stages in a hectic, hardcore platforming extravaganza. There's even a speedrun mode with a global leaderboard if you really want to push yourself.

5. Fire watch

If you missed Firewatch when it came out on PS4, Xbox One and PC way back in 2016, you're doing yourself a disservice. Developed by Campo Santo and featuring artwork from the utterly brilliant Olly Moss, it tells the tale of a guy called Henry, who in 1989 goes to work in the Wyoming wilderness to keep a lookout for forest fires. There's no-one else to talk to but Delilah via walkie-talkie, but that's when things start to go a bit weird in this narrative adventure. Prepare to go on quite the emotional and psychological journey with Henry across the beautiful wilderness.

6. Octopath

In a rare case of an absurd working title becoming the actual game name, Octopath Traveler is a new JRPG from Square Enix that puts major emphasis on dedicated role-playing. You must choose from one of eight unique heroes when starting your quest, each with their own personality, fighting style, and most importantly, distinct commands when interacting with NPCs. Are you the kind of player who wants to challenge everyone you see to a feat of strength, or someone who wants to charm folks with your provocative dancing? Your experience of the world all comes down to your chosen hero, but no matter who you pick, there's plenty to explore as you take in the lavish, 16-bit-meets-HD sights and engage in nuanced turn-based battles.

7. Dark souls : Remastered

Another huge AAA to launch on Switch is Dark Souls, and with this Dark Souls: Remastered package, you're getting one of the toughest games of all time looking the best it ever has. It's Dark Souls, on Switch, on the bus, on the plane, absolutely anywhere. Just prepare to die everywhere too. Sadly, the game has been recently delayed from May 25 to a 'summer' release, but here's hoping it will be this side of August 31st, or whatever the latest day of summer might constitute.
